NIGERIA @ 60 : ARE WE PROGRESSING OR RETROGRESSING

Hmmm,  This is a milestone in the history of Nigeria but nothing to show for it as a country. Today i heard someone speak with so much sarcasm about this mile stone " Happy independence, Nigeria at sixty but still at pont zero". What hurt me the most about this statement was that there was some kind of truth to it, as much as i would to deny it.

I don't know whether to be happy or sad that my beloved country Nigeria. The successful  individuals have to  be commended because they  deserve it but the government i can not say as much.

Nigeria at sixty and we have not still identified our problem. Is this a course to celebrate? I think not, Nigeria is a shadow of what it used to be in the early 70's and 80's. The so disciplined and organised Nigeria is no were to be found, the country with 24/7 power supply, the country were those  in government had the interest of the people at heart. The Nigeria of my parents, with clean streets . It saddens me that as a Nigerian youth when i hear stories from my Parent of how the country was in their time and i think to myself "Isn't it meant to be better than it was before" but reverse is the case., I have not experienced anything apart from Terrorism, attack from insurgents, corruption.

FACTS ABOUT NIGERIA THAT GOT ME THINKING😞😞😞

1.) AJAOKUTA STEEL MILL : Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited (ASCL) popularly known as Ajaokuta Steel Mill is a steel mill in Nigeria, located in Ajaokuta, Kogi State, Nigeria. Built on a 24,000 hectares (59,000 acres) site starting in 1979,it is the largest steel mill in Nigeria, and the coke oven and byproducts plant are larger than all the refineries in Nigeria combined. However, the project was mismanaged and remains incomplete 40 years later. Three-quarters of the complex have been abandoned, and only the light mills have been put into operation for small-scale fabrication and the production of iron rods.

2.)Would you believe that there was once the Naira was equivalent to Pound sterling and Stronger than the dollar? Up to the year 1985, the Naira was the equivalent of the Pound Sterling and stronger than the Dollar. As at today 1 dollar is equivalent to 381 Naira  and 1 Pound sterling is equivalent to 492.37 Naira.

3.)NIGERIA FEDERAL SECRETARIAT, IKOYI, LAGOS:The 15-storey Federal Secretariat Complex in Ikoyi, Lagos was abandoned since 1991 following the relocation of the country’s capital from Lagos to Abuja. Built in 1976, the facility which served as the engine room of the federal civil service is virtually in a ruinous state, stripped of doors, windows and other fittings, a NAN check has revealed. A section of the building formerly occupied by the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control which was gutted by fire is yet to be renovated. The Federal Government had planned to convert the facility into residential accommodation consisting of four, three and two bedroom flats, but the move was halted by the Lagos State Government. LASG, had in 2006 passed the Ikoyi/Victoria Model City Plan Bill, insisting that the secretariat remains an institutional building that cannot be converted to other uses.

AND THE BIG QUESTION IS; WHAT IS WRONG WITH NIGERIA?

INDEPENDENCE DAY GIST

I couldn't spend my independence day inside my house, living in a bubble of "e go better", I had to go and listen to fellow Nigerians like myself and today i realized that a lot of people are angry. In fact i was careful not to receive slap today from saying "Happy Independence" to angry Nigerians. The look  that some of them gave me was enough for them  to send bullets  straight into my head, if eyes could kill. when I  thought  it had ended Then the Uber driver topped it all. I was so lucky not to have wished this guy Happy Independence day if not he could have just dropped me on the road (LOL😂😂). My cousin just said" this day is moving fast" and my guy started" This day should end quickly, what kind of stupid independence are we celebrating". Then he talked about how he just ended a costumers trip because she innocently wished him Happy Independence. This guy did not even let me say I am proud of my country, he told me there was nothing to be proud of. I felt like really laughing but with the seriousness in his voice, he was capable of stopping my trip so i just maintained myself but sincerely speaking, people are angry and frustrated.

NO DOUBT THAT NIGERIA HAS FAILED US BUT WE CAN'T FAIL OURSELVES.

LET'S NOT LOOSE HOPE BUT HONESTLY SPEAKING, I TIRE FOR "E GO BETTER".

                                         GOD BLESS NIGERIA
