DEAR ME—NEW YEAR, SAME YOU
It's big 2025! Let’s pretend it’s still the first day of the year—starting everything clean and brand new. Happy New Year, eyin fans mi! Welcome to 2025, and thank you for all the laughs and engagement last year. Cheers to even more fun and laughter this year!
I haven’t made New Year’s resolutions in the past 2–3 years. Instead, I’ve written love letters to myself—little guides to help me navigate the year—and this time, I’ve decided to share this year’s version with you.
Dear me, love yourself enough to walk away from situations that don't serve you. One of my favourite lines from Shayo's Soft life rendition is "if it doesn't serve you, it don't deserve you". It’s not selfish to protect your peace; it’s survival. Be bold enough to choose you this year, be kind enough to love yourself more this year, Walk away from people or situations that drain you or make you feel small, value yourself enough to say “no” to anything that doesn’t align with your growth. It's 2025 and you deserve better.
Dear me, new year, same you. There's really nothing wrong with the old you (notice how i said really? It's because something might actually be wrong with you—just kidding sha... or not). The same strength that carried you through last year's challenges is still within you. The same love, kindness, and resilience are still yours. It's ok to want to improve or work on yourself but growth doesn’t always mean reinventing yourself. Sometimes, it’s about embracing who you already are—nurturing what’s good, pruning what’s harmful, and trusting the process . Remember this year's "you" wouldn't be possible without last year's you.
Dear me, breathe. It's a new year and you have high expectations but don't forget to breathe, remember na who dey alive, na hin get opportunity (imax, 2025). It's not all about the initial "gra gra", who go hard go still go home if hin no get direction. The hustle and ambitions are valid, but they’re only meaningful if you’re here to see them through. So take care of your body, your mind, and your soul. As long as you’re here, there’s room to grow, laugh, and love. You've got this and if "you've not got this", it's very ok to ask for help, no go kill yourself.
Dear me, no pressure. No pressure to meet anyone’s timeline. No pressure to have it all figured out. Work with your own pace, be your own competition. Let’s take it one step at a time. Let’s celebrate every little win and find peace in the journey. Don’t let pressure steal the joy of the moment.
In as much as it looks like everywhere you turn, everyone seems to have their life together—especially on the internet—except you, just be comforted that it's not only you in this boat, you and two others, if not three, can totally relate.
And lastly,
Dear me, Don't be afraid to live this 2025,
I love you and you should love you too,
ME💕
👏👏🥺

ReplyDeleteThis is highly creative and well thought-out. ...but I'm not surprised this is coming from you Bunma. A real chip off the old block. Your Dad was a creative writer and a journalist per excellence. He'll surely be smiling right now because you've disappointed him one bit.
ReplyDeleteIllah people will say "Ife agwo mu ga eso uso". Ask your mum for the interpretation.
I meant "you've not disappointed him one bit" sorry for the typo
