WE SHOULD ALL BE ANGRY
Eid Mubarak to all my beautiful Muslim brothers and sisters. I pray this season brings you nothing but joy and overflowing happiness, but I can't say that much for the women right now in Ozoro, Delta State, who are being harassed, raped, and molested all in the name of "tradition and culture."
No matter how much we try to defend our dear African culture, time and time again it proves to be very patriarchal, oppressive, and taunting for women. We don't hear enough about "culture" or anything from these cultural enthusiasts, except when it's to tell a woman what to do, how to dress, how to speak, and everything in between. I don't know what separates a woman from a domestic animal in the eyes of some people.
And then when women speak up, they say we are "angry," a bunch of "angry feminists." I am angry, and you should be too. Are these reasons not sufficient enough to be angry or bitter, even?? If you hear of things like this or see them happen and you are not angry, then you are sick. There's no polite way to say it.
A woman doesn't have to be your sister, aunty, mother, cousin, or even friend to be treated right or spoken up for.
In big 2026, we are still having conversations around rape, harassment, child molestation, even child marriage. In big 2026?? Let's be freaking for real!!!!!!!
We are letting a lot of atrocities and abominations take place all in the name of culture and tradition. I hate people that throw stones and hide their hands. I hate the hypocrisy that society hides behind culture and tradition. I hate it all. What is actually going on?
And please, for the love of God and whatever they hold dear, "Not all men" and "what about false accusations?" warriors can't afford to be quiet now. You can't o. You must use that same energy to come out and answer for what is currently going on in Ozoro. If not, then the part of hell you'll burn in will be hotter than the sun itself.
Some idiots now will leave the issue on ground and start asking stupid questions like, "Why were they outside?" As how????
When it’s time to speak against rape, you’re quiet.
When it’s time to show solidarity, you disappear.
But the moment your ego feels attacked, you suddenly find your voice.
If your first instinct is to defend men instead of defend victims, you are not neutral. You are complicit. You are part of the problem.
As a society, as a people, we are not angry enough, and that's the major problem. We should all be angry, we should all be upset. There's nothing like neautrality in the face of injustice, you are either for or against. Like Desmond Tutu says "If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor".Something doesn't have to hit home before it becomes a major concern.
Till next time
BUNMA💕.

ReplyDeleteI'll ask that you pardon my ignorance about the happening in ozoro that occasioned this outburst. A brief on it before the outburst would've helped my judgement.
ReplyDeleteMy dear IMAX I just came across the video, it's not only absurd but barbaric. No wonder your outburst. I agree with you that we're not angry enough. It's not about the female gender, the society in general should condemn this barbaric culture. The police should arrest the scap goats.
